Many film buffs have been anxiously awaiting the re-opening of movie theaters across the country, and it's finally happening in Virginia. Three new films will open this Friday in theaters, including Derrick Borte’s film, Unhinged (2020), starring Russell Crowe. Movie theaters are also playing older films that they know will attract audiences, including Jurassic Park (1993), Back to the Future (1985), and Grease (1978). The bigger movie theaters that are opening are primarily AMC and Regal, along with a few smaller and local venues.

Movies are now available or soon available to be seen in Norfolk,Hampton, Chesapeake, Newport, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth,Gloucester, and Williamsburg. To keep attendees safe, theaters have implemented new policies such as distancing within the theaters, mask requirements, changes in food availability, cash-only policies, and increased health checks for employees. Although these safety policies will make the viewing experience a bit different from how it was before, the opportunity to locally view Hollywood films on the big screen offers an exciting sense of normalcy during the pandemic. Theaters eventually following suit all across the country is definitely something to look forward to.
